Language resources
The following IT-based resources are aimed at supporting independent language study:
- The Maschler German-English Online Dictionary - The Maschler German-English Dictionary at Exeter uses the "agrep" program to search a word list currently comprising just over 110,000 words.
- A Guide to German Pronunciation - This online overview of German pronunciation offers a concise explanation of the different sounds which you will encounter in a German-speaking country. Numerous sound files allow the user to distinguish between similar pairs of words and to overcome the errors most commonly made by English speakers. In addition to this, a number of online exercises enable you to practise your pronunciation skills.
- German verb tables - A guide to the conjugation of regular and irregular German verbs in a variety of tense and moods.
- German media index - This comprehensive linklist provides access to newspapers, periodicals, news tickers, television channels and radio stations in the German-speaking countries.
- The German Rechtschreibreform - An explanation in English of the spelling reforms that came into effect in the German-speaking countries in August 2006.
